We've formed our March for Babies team in memory of Marisa Mae Houston, our first daughter. Marisa was born 18 weeks premature, weighing 1 pound 11 ounces, and 11 inches long. She exact length of a Barbie doll. She lived for 40 precious minutes and died in her mothers arms.
Our 2nd daughter, born 2 years after Marisa, was also premature by 14 weeks. She weighed 1 pound 13 ounces and was only 13 inches long. She spent 116 days fighting for her life in the NICU. It is because of March of Dimes' research that she is with us today, a healthy 3 1/2 year old.
The money we raise helps fund research to find out why premature birth happens and what can be done to prevent it, and how to help the babies that are born premature. Premature birth is the #1 cause of newborn death and the biggest threat to babies' health today.
