THANK YOU! GRACIAS!!

Fiona, now almost 3 1/2!! , was a micro-preemie baby, who lost her hearing during her battle against infections. Two more surgeries later (one on her 1st birthday and the 2nd on Jan 2007), she has now her "Freedoms" :), meaning a cochlear implant (CI) in both of her ears (the model of the implant is called Freedom). Fiona's verbal progress is remarkable. She is still in verbal therapy but her main source for verbal knowledge is 'big' brother Sebastian (4 1/2)!. Whatever he says, she says, wherever he goes, she goes, whatever he does, she does :) Depending on the day she is our little princess, mainly our little pixy (very very mischievous), or our little pumpkin (she was after all born in Halloween!).
Here is her story:
Fiona was born on October 31, 2004 at almost 26 weeks of gestation (doctors said 25 1/2 but I believe I was starting my 26th week the Sunday she was born), at only 1lb 15oz and a bit longer than a pencil (13 in). She was so early that her eyes were still shut. She spent 3 long (long!) months in the NICU, battling many lung infections, and overcoming 3 different surgeries (PAD, ROP, and double hernias). She finally came home (Feb 2, 2005, 3 days before her due date). She lost her hearing due to the many antibiotics that she needed to save her life from the infections.
Up to this day doctors have no apparent reason for her prematurity, since the pregnancy was going great. I went into full labor without notice...none....nada. She was born within the hour of my arrival to the Hospital via emergency C-section since she was breeched.
Please help us help others avoid prematurity!.
You can follow her progress in her webpage
