We are walking for the March for babies as parents of premature twins. John and James were born at 28 weeks via C-section at Brigham and women’s hospital after Meg went into preterm labor. If not for the specialized care she received from the maternal fetal medicine department including numerous appointments, imaging, scans and procedures they likely would have arrived much earlier. John spent 92 days in the NICU with many bumps in the road- sepsis, UTIs, pyloric stenosis, surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital, feeding difficulties and chronic lung disease. James spent 100 days in the NICU with a very similar course as his brother which is what prompted us to send DNA swabs- turns out they are IDENTICAL. We could never thank the staff at the BWH NICU for all they did for our boys. We are extremely lucky that we live where we do and had the privilege of having our boys at the Brigham, however, every baby should have access to the same level of care we received. We are walking for John and James but also for every other family who shares a story similar to ours. Every mom and baby deserve and should receive the same care and support we have been provided.
