The March of Dimes has changed the name of its biggest event to March for Babies. It's a great change because it makes it very clear exactly who I am walking for -- all babies. I am very excited to be a part of the “first” March for Babies; please support my participation.
Although the name of this signature event changed, the mission did not. The March of Dimes champions the needs of moms and babies in our community and across the nation. The money we raise for March for Babies will support lifesaving research, services, education and advocacy that help babies get a healthy start.
Fortunately, my baby was not delivered prematurely but my pregnancy did not go without its own complications. I spent three months on bedrest for unexplained preterm contractions. I am blessed to have delivered a healthy baby girl that is now almost 1 1/2 years old. I am thankful for the medication and help of local doctors that allowed my baby to stay in utero until full term. Unfortunately, a close friend of mine recently lost her beautiful twin boys two days after delivering 17 weeks prematurely due to unexplained preterm labor. No one should ever have to go through the pain of watching their infant die in their arms because medicine just can't fight for them any longer.

The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
