It’s March of Dimes season again! Actually, it’s *been* MOD season for a while now, and I am TERRIBLY late in passing the collection plate. Our March for Babies is this Saturday, March 29. Please don’t let my late timing downplay the urgency of the cause. Your help is needed!
Last year during the fundraising season I was on bed rest, doing everything I could to insure that my twin boys did not become a prematurity statistic. Despite being at high risk for prematurity and/or other complications, we were a best case scenario, what the March of Dimes is striving to achieve for EVERY baby. Max and Huck were born full term, perfectly healthy. I am thankful for that every single day. Many families are not as fortunate. Premature birth is far too common, continues to rise and the reasons are just not clear. Research is needed, both to learn how to prevent prematurity and to care for the infants and families who fall victim to this epidemic. Research is expensive. Medical care and support services for these families are a huge drain on personal and community resources. As a parent, the specter of an ill child breaks my heart in a whole new way. It should never happen. EVERY sweet, innocent, miraculous child deserves a healthy start in life.
My Max and Huck just turned one, and they run us ragged (hence the 11th hour solicitation). But it’s a good ragged ;-). They are the ambassadors for our March of Dimes team this year, so we have a special obligation to support the team as best we can.
