Dear Family and Friends,
For the 2nd year, our family will be participating in the March of Dimes, March for Babies. Our Family Team, Conner's Crew, is walking in honor of Conner and in memory of his twin brother Braedon. We are also walking in the hopes that one day, all babies will be born healthy. We are writing today to ask you to join us.
We are forming our team in honor of our son, Conner and memory of our son, Braedon who were born 17 weeks too soon, on July 25, 2007. When I went to the hospital for a routine ultrasound, we had no idea what was about to happen. The doctors gave our boys no chance of survival because it was just their 22nd week. We lasted 8 days in the hospital before the boys were born at just 23 weeks and 2 days gestation. The doctors gave the boys a very small chance of survival, and if they did survive, they gave us a grim outlook for their lives. After a difficult 2 weeks, Braedon Jacot passed away from complications of his prematurity. Conner suffered many complications due to his prematurity, but continued to improve every day. In the hospital, he had 4 surgeries, 14 blood transfusions, countless IV's, chest tubes, x-rays, and much more. He endured more than anyone should have to in a lifetime. He came home after 107 days in the NICU, 10 days before his due date.
Since Conner has been home, he has had challenges. He has had 2 more surgeries and has been sick qoften. But he is tough cookie and beats every challenge. Since last year's walk, Conner has all the things the doctors' told us he may never do. They told us he would probably never walk due to all of the complications from his early arrival. But, this year, Conner will walk in the March for Babies with us. He has defied so many odds and is an amazing, happy, wonderful child. By sharing our story, we hope to remind everyone of the urgency of the mission of the March of Dimes and inspire our family and friends to join our team.
No one is working harder than the March of Dimes to understand the causes of prematurity and birth defects. March for Babies offers hope by raising funds for lifesaving research, education and innovative programs for babies born too soon or with birth defects.
