When it comes to charitable endeavors, Tom Schibusch is an army of one. Schibusch led his first fundraising effort as a fourth-grader standing outside a liquor store collecting pocket change for UNICEF. As an Apple Valley High School student inspired by the movie "Rocky" he launched the High Desert's first March of Dimes walkathon 30 years ago — and then trudged 20 painful miles to the finish line. Having been born prematurely, Tom has Cerebral Palsy, but he doesn't let this stop him. His goal is to help save as many babies as possible from the devastating effects of premature birth. That is why he has made fundraising for this good cause his life's work.
The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
