Aidan Patrick was born 3 weeks premature at 5 lbs. 2 oz and 18 1/2 inches long in October 2013. He was labeled a high risk pregnancy very early due to what happened with his sister, Lilian. At 33 weeks I was put on bed rest for preeclampsia and a placental abruption, which was the exact timing I was put on bed rest with Lily. This time I was able to stay pregnant 4 weeks longer, rather than 2 days! The delivery tough because Aidan went into fetal distress and they needed to do another emergency c-section. But miraculously, he didn't have to go to the NICU! He has similar gastrointestinal issues like Lily due to his prematurity and he is seeing specialists at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. Aidan still isn't on the growth chart yet, but has a wonderful personality and a big, beautiful smile.

Lilian Hope was born 7 weeks premature, only 2 lbs. 12 oz. and 15 inches long. Like her brother, she was born early because of preeclampsia and a placental abruption, but was small for her gestational age because of intrauterine growth restriction. After going into fetal distress also, Lily was born by emergency c-section. Her lungs weren't fully developed when she was born; she was on a ventilator and oscillator for 7 days, had a chest tube, erratic blood pressure, and more. We held her when she was 8 days old, and she came home almost a month later. She was late talking and walking and needed speech and physical therapies. Lily also struggled with severe gastrointestinal issues and had a surgery at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia when she was 3. She saw specialists there for almost 2 years. Lily just turned 6 1/2 years old yesterday! She is an amazing, energetic girl, who is extremely smart and has a beautiful, outgoing personality. Lily is attending 1st grade at Lower Milford Elementary and takes swim lessons at Swim-In Zone. She loves to read, paint and help take care of her new baby brother, Aidan.

Lily had a very rough beginning, but with her strength, wonderful doctors, hope & prayers, she was able to rise above it all. We now see this same strength and fieriness in Aidan, and look toward these doctors and prayers to get him through these hurdles. We thank God every day for the amazing gift He has given us; they have changed our lives forever. We remain forever grateful to the great doctors and nurses at these hospitals for saving Lily and Aidan, and would like to help other babies now that have, or will share their experiences.

The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

Your gift will support March of Dimes research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. And it will be used to bring comfort and information to families with a baby in newborn intensive care.
