Hi! My name is Jacob and I am six years old. I was born prematurely six weeks early. When I was a baby, I had a little bit of a rough start being jaundiced and underweight. The doctor said I weighed 4lbs 13oz and 17.5 inches long at birth. I had to stay two extra days because of jaundice and weight gain issues. Mommy was very upset and devastated . I came home two days later. When I came home, I needed to have a "wallaby blanket"(photo therapy blanket) on me for my jaundice for about one and a half weeks. I had no sucking reflexes so breastfeeding was difficult, mommy had to syringe feed me for a couple days, I couldn't pass my bowels real well, and so mommy had to help me. I′m currently receiving Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy. My sissy receives Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Wraparound and Speech. I visit the eye specialist yearly. What makes me scared is how many babies like myself that are born every year and arrive too soon, but if we help raise money for the March of Dimes, maybe they will find new ways to fight against prematurity, and take steps to save these tiny babies like myself.
My sister and I have our own team called “Team Jacob and Kylie” for the March of Dimes Walk America. We want to try to raise lots of money. Come walk with us! Together we can raise money for other children born too soon like myself and for children born like my sissy who are born with the number one birth defect known as congenital heart defect. She has two congenital heart defects and we both have Noonan Syndrome and Autsim.
Sharing our story raises awareness while also raising money for the March of Dimes. We are proud to lead Team Jacob and Kylie because we know that every dollar raised will be a dollar well spent to save babies and to support cures for birth defects. It′s a great way to celebrate your children while supporting the lifesaving work of the March of Dimes.
