As many of you know, we have had 3 children impacted by premature birth and preterm labor. Joseph, born at 22 weeks, was only able to live for 1 hour and 9 minutes. Gabriella was born at 25 weeks, and had to spend the first three months of her life in the NICU hooked up to several machines. And Cole, after I spent 20 weeks on bed rest with him, had to be delivered a little early which caused him some difficulty with aspirating early on. Each one of our children has suffered in some way because of premature birth. Gabriella and Cole, are the fortunate ones who have been able to survive and thrive because of advances in medicine and prevention in dealing with preterm labor and premature birth. Many of the treatments that I received to increase their time spent in the womb, and the treatments that they received after they were born, were made possible because of research done and supported by the March of Dimes. Also, our niece, Veronica, was born at 30 weeks gestation, and is now thriving at age 3! Because of this we feel strongly about supporting the March for Babies, in hopes that someday no babies or families will ever have to suffer from premature birth.

We've joined March for Babies because the March of Dimes champions the needs of moms and babies in our community and across the nation. The money we raise for March for Babies will help:

- support all-important research offering preventions and solutions for babies born too soon or with birth defects

- educate women on things they can do to increase their chances of having a healthy baby

- provide comfort and information to families with a newborn in intensive care

- push for newborn screening and health insurance for all pregnant women and children
