Family and Friends,

I am excited to tell you about the walk I have planned to raise money for the March of Dimes!

On October 10th I will walk out my front door and head south. My goal is to arrive, 10 days and 163 miles later, at the Daniels School of Business at The University of Denver where the Denver chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. meets. The March of Dimes is one of the organization that Alpha Phi Alpha supports on a national level and as a member I want to do my part to help the cause.

Premature birth impacts one in ten Colorado babies. The Colorado chapter of the March of Dimes is committed to reducing the state’s preterm birth rate so that more babies can be born full-term and healthy; thereby, reducing birth defects and infant death. Thanks to collaborative efforts, Colorado’s preterm birth rate has improved by 16 percent since 2006, sparing nearly 5,000 babies and resulting in an estimated savings of over $142 million in healthcare costs.

By funding the development of the polio vaccine, the March of Dimes are the only nonprofit to accomplish the original mission they set out to achieve. Their research has made advances in lifesaving fetal surgery. Thirteen March of Dimes researchers have been awarded a Nobel Prize. Fewer babies are born with neural tube defects like spina bifida because of March of Dimes advocacy and our Folic Acid Campaign. March of Dimes research led to the development of surfactant therapy for premature babies, significantly reducing infant deaths from respiratory distress syndrome. Each year about 270 babies in Colorado receive lifesaving surfactant therapy.

I need your help to reach my goal of $1630.00 which equates to $10.00 per mile. Help me achieve this goal by sponsoring a mile for just $10.00. If you can't afford $10.00 you can donate as much as you can knowing that every dollar counts. If you're able to donate more rest assured that every cent goes to The March of Dimes.

Please support my walk. Making a secure donation is easy: just click the 'donate now' button on this page. Thank you for helping me give all babies a healthy start!

I will be checking in along the way via Facebook so you can follow my progress with the above map.

Thank you all for your support!

The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

Your gift will support March of Dimes research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. And it will be used to bring comfort and information to families with a baby in newborn intensive care.
