Every year, half a million babies in the U.S. are born too soon. Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death and many life long disabilities. In addition, women in my generation have a 50% higher chance of having a premature birth than those in the generations before. The funds we raise through March for Babies supports research that saves babies' lives.
The March of Dimes also helps provide resources to families dealing with genetic disorders. I've had the privilege to help with one such project at the University of Florida. Additionally, the March of Dimes helps fund research like mine and others' as we strive to better understand, treat, and even prevent the effects of genetic disorders.
The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
