Message from the Team Captain

Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick. Our team is walking in March for Babies because we want to do something about this. I know you care, too. That's why I'm asking you to join us. It's easy: just click the join this team button. The AAMC NICU team knows the problem of premature birth first hand, as we are on the front lines caring for these babies. The story below will tell you how premature birth happened to one of our own nurses:Zoe′s Story: Being a NICU nurse at AAMC, I spend almost every day caring for babies born too early. I have devoted my career to practicing neonatal medicine. When I became pregnant in 2011 I never expected what would happen next. On Nov. 22 2011, my pregnancy came to a halt when I went into premature labor at 29 weeks. I gave birth to a 2lbs. 15oz, 16in. long baby girl named Zoe. My daughter spent the next 35 days battling many obstacles from respiratory support, IV′s, antibiotics, feeding intolerance, temperature regulation, blood transfusions, eye exams and head ultrasounds. Here we are 2 years later and my little miracle continues to amaze me every day. From where we began to where we are now, she has shown me that preemies are a lot stronger than they look. This is why Zoe, her father, her NICU nurses, support staff, fellow NICU babies/ parents and myself will be walking to support all of the amazing preemies that have touched all of our lives. I ask you all to join our team!Stephanie Toro - Mom, NICU Nurse

The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Funds raised in March for Babies support research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. And they will be used to bring comfort and information to families with a baby in newborn intensive care.
