The March of Dimes is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. My own twins were born over 3 months premature (93 days to be exact) weighing a little over 2 lbs each, and survived due to the grace of God and cutting edge medical developments funded by the March of Dimes.
I am forever grateful to those unnamed people whose previous donations helped my precious babies to survive. They not only survived, but are happy, healthy, and energetic two-year-olds, and you would never know from looking at them that they faced such an enormous health challenge at birth.
I also know of many families whose lives were touched by the premature birth of a baby. I am walking in their honor as well as my own children.
Did you know that premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death in the first month of life? It affects half a million babies a year in the United States. Those who survive may have lifelong health problems. And premature births are on the rise -- up to 30% since 1981.
That is why I am asking you to support me in March for Babies WalkAmerica to help 'pay it forward' to the next generation.
Your support helps fund:
-Research into stress and other factors that may trigger preterm labor.
-Programs to educate pregnant women to recognize the warning signs of preterm labor.
-Tools to help health care providers find better ways to detect women who may be at risk for preterm labor.
