One in ten babies is born prematurely every year, and in over half of those cases (like ours), the cause is unknown. The March of Dimes supports research, leads programs and provides education and advocacy -- making a difference to families in our community and across the country.
Our story...
On May 18, 2016, I checked myself into labor and delivery because something felt off. I was just 26 weeks pregnant (not even in my third trimester) and was sure they would tell me it was nothing and send me home. Instead, they determined I was in active labor and that I had a slow amniotic leak. They immediately admitted me and pumped me full of drugs to try and stop labor, but Emmett had other plans. Mere hours later, he was born weighing 1 lb 14 oz and measuring 13 inches in length.
We spent more than three months in the NICU, finally coming home two days after his original due date. It was the hardest three months of our lives, with many scary episodes that had us wondering if we'd ever get to bring him home. Nine years later, we know just how lucky we are. We are proud to support the March of Dimes as we hope for a world where no parent has to go through what we have.
