Important Update

Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

The Ayotte Family

Meet Katie, Matt, Kaiya, and Henson Ayotte. "Our story shows the true unpredictable nature of late-preterm babies. Our daughter, Kaiya, was born spontaneously at 35 weeks. Although she was a bit small and a bit early, she seemed perfect, and we were originally released from the hospital. Our second night home with her, we rushed to the Connecticut Children's ER in Hartford when she wasn't acting quite right. Her body temperature had dropped so low, they couldn't get a proper reading. After getting her body to a stable temperature, she was admitted into the CCMC NICU. There, she was treated for hypothermia and jaundice, and then as a feeder/grower. My husband and I were able to stay with Kaiya, and met many amazing nurses, doctors, and other caregivers that fight for babies everyday. Two years later, we began our pregnancy journey with our little Henson. Each week I received shots in hopes to keep him in place longer than his sister. At week 32, I went into spontaneous labor again. The doctors at Hartford Hospital were able to stop labor, but I returned home on a med protocol in hopes that my pregnancy would last a while longer. At week 35 (again!), Henson decided it was time to come out. Unlike his sister, Henson was a big boy, actually too big for his gestational age. This time, we learned about the problems that larger NICU babies can face. We continue to have extra doctor visits to track his growth and development issues. Kaiya (3) and Henson (10 months) each had very different NICU journeys that, although short, changed our lives forever. Grateful for our now healthy babies, Matt and I found ourselves wanting to find a way to give back. After our first March for Babies, we were blessed to meet and connect with other families who have had similar journeys. We are now a part of this wonderful, supportive community, and have been able to educate others about March of Dimes and its mission! Please join us at this year's walk."
