The Price Family

It was the fall of 2010, my then fiancé and I were set to get married in Hilton Head, SC on the beach. During our time in Hilton Head we found out we were expecting our first child. Our life together was all falling into place. On November 24, 2010, the day before Thanksgiving, I had a scheduled doctor appointment to have an ultra-sound and find out the gender of our child. During the ultra-sound the fetal heartbeat could not be detected. It was then, our world was turned upside down and numerous questions raced through our minds. We had the option to deliver our child that day or wait a week. Thankfully my mom was with us this day, as she had a similar experience in her pregnancy days. She said, “You are going to deliver this baby today.” And that is exactly what we did. On November 25, 2010 at 7:25 am I delivered an 8 ounce, 9.5 inches long, baby boy at just 19 weeks and named him Chance Loren Price. It was discovered I had a septum in my uterus which was described as a curtain hanging inside my uterus and made my uterus appear as though it was heart-shaped. Thankfully this issue was corrected by surgery. After this tragedy, we felt compelled to help fight premature births. In April of 2011 we formed our team “Chance in Life” and joined the March of Dimes by walking in memory of our son Chance. On March 12, 2013, we gave birth to our second son, Cayle Adam Price, whom just recently turned 4 years old. He has been our pride and joy, helping us push forward through these tough times. On February 2, 2015, a day after my mom’s birthday, tragedy struck our family once again. We went to the hospital for a scheduled C-section to give birth to our third child, Ashlyn Lauryn Price. In preparation for the surgery the fetal heartbeat could not be detected. Once again, our world was shattered and the question of why we were going through another miscarriage was racing through our minds. Unfortunately, there was no going backwards, no rewinds, no turning around, no do-overs. We had to move forward, just like we did when we lost Chance. On this day at 9:55 am I gave birth to a 6 pound 0.5 ounce, 19 ¾ inches long little girl. It was determined there was a tight knot in the umbilical cord. Remember earlier, I said my mom went through a similar situation, well this situation was the exact situation my mom went through after she had me. She too gave birth to a full-term baby and there was a knot in the umbilical cord. Thankfully my mom did not give up and went on to have my two younger brothers. After this second loss, I was determined I was not going to let this defeat me, I was not going to give up and only have one living child. I, we, deserved more than that, my parents deserved more than that. There were many times I questioned God’s timing, his plan, and his lesson to me, to us. But I never gave up hope and faith that I would become pregnant again. In October of 2016, I noticed some of the signs of being pregnant. After a confirmed positive pregnancy test, we shared the news with our families on Christmas day. So here we are on this wonderful pregnancy journey again, with a delivery date set at June 19, 2017 with another little boy. Today we not only walk to remember our son Chance, but our daughter Ashlyn as well. This will be our 7th year participating in the March of Dimes and every year our team and our donations to the March of Dimes continue to grow through fundraising and the generous donations from our friends and family. We cannot thank them enough for supporting us and supporting the March of Dimes. Thank you for allowing me to share our story and may someone going through a similar situation find the hope and faith to not give up on your dream of one day having a healthy baby.
