Lutfieh Family

"The Lutfieh Family" My story starts out not different from many. I met my husband quite young, fell in love; we were engaged for a year and then married. My husband wanted a large family, so we started having children early in to our marriage We now had 5 beautiful, wonderful children, and we were happy. When I turned 30 why I was overjoyed when I found out that I was pregnant again. On June 3rd, 2011, at 40 weeks and 5 days, I began labor as my contractions were getting closer they became very painful, unlike anything I had felt before. I knew something was wrong and rushed us in to a room where they did an ultrasound and it was at that moment that my world stopped. They told us our daughter was gone. They said her heart was no longer beating. The umbilical cord had wrapped around her chest so tight that it had stopped her heart. My children helped me through this time. They needed me and cared for me, which gave me the love and purpose necessary to move through this kind of sadness. It was in this time that I walked for the first time with the March of Dimes. I walked for Jenna in hopes that someday no one would know the anguish of a stillborn baby that I knew so well. In ways, I began to heal. My husband and I thought that bringing the joy of a new baby in to our family might be healing for us all, and in 2012, I became pregnant again. Because of the concerns the doctors had, they had us deliver at 37 weeks. We didn’t know what might be wrong. But on February 4th, 2013, our baby boy, Nouh, surprised us all, when he came in to this world small but otherwise healthy. We felt so happy when we brought our little Nouh home at ten days old. He was having trouble with feedings, it was discovered that his epiglottis was large and causing his feeding issues and so it needed to be clipped back. They assured us that this was a very simple and routine procedure and that we had nothing to fear. On March 18, 2013, at 6 weeks old, we took Nouh to Cincinnati Children’s for his procedure. The doctors said everything went perfectly and once he was awake I fed him and he didn’t get sick. My baby was ok. Nouh had contracted pneumonia after his procedure and on the day he was to be discharged his organs began to shut down, one by one. We now had an answer, but the doctor’s said it was too late. . He had suffered and fought long enough so Nouh went to Jenna. The March of Dimes isn’t just about the research and the medicine. It’s not all monetary and statistics. It’s about the babies, about the people, about the grief and the joy. It is a community where you are not alone in your story or your sorrow.
