We're getting ready to walk in March for Babies! It promises to be a fun day out with people who share our passion for improving the health of babies. There'll be family teams, company teams and people walking with friends - it's a great feeling knowing we're all helping real families. Join our event to HOPE, REMEMBER and CELEBRATE and walk with us to raise money for babies right here in our community! The 2017 Charleston March for Babies will start with a Superhero Sprint as our NICU Grads lead us on our 3-mile trek. When you return to the Festival, visit our Hope, Remember and Celebrate enjoy games areas. Hope explores the March of Dimes mission and we'll have rendition photos of the new MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital NICU. Visit Remember to see the Memory Mile around the Butterfly Garden for families to honor the babies they've lost. And finally, Celebrate! See Ambassador Avenue, enjoy food, try out the River Dogs Speed Pitch, play corn hole and enjoy other activities. This year's walk will share the true importance of why what we do is so important. Join us! Located on the corner of Calhoun and Rutledge Avenue. Walk from Cannon Park down toward the Battery and then back to Cannon Park. FREE PARKING = MUSC Courtenay Drive Garage, PAID Parking in MUSC Ashley Rutledge Garage.

Please print the below links as we approach March day. Bank Day is Thursday, April 27! Please email srice@marchofdimes.org to schedule you team time. 2017 Charleston Ambassador Kennedy Feals

Meet Kennedy! She was born at 27 weeks 6 days when her mom developed pre-eclampsia. Kennedy weighed just 2 pounds, 2 ounces and measured 14 inches! A few days after making her early debut, she developed a very serious lung condition (PIE) that is seen in about 25% of preemies. She received multiple doses of surfactant (a therapy the March of Dimes helped develop) and spent close to 4 weeks on a high-frequency ventilator – she was getting 420 breaths per minute through the ventilator! Around 4 weeks, her lung disease resolved, she was off of the ventilator, and (finally) able to be held for the first time, which she loved! She spent another 4 weeks on another oxygen treatment called CPAP, and around her 2 month birthday she was off of all oxygen and breathing room air on her own. Kennedy spent another month after that in the hospital (bringing her stay to 12 full weeks and 1 day) while her lung continued to improve and while she learned other skills, like how to regulate her body temperature and how to eat by mouth. She went home on her due date, and weighed 6.5 pounds! Thanks to research and development through the March of Dimes and amazing care in the NICU, Kennedy is now a healthy, happy baby!
