Important Update

Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

ABOUT MARCH FOR BABIES
We walk to give EVERY BABY a fighting chance. Thank you to all of our walkers, donors and volunteers who have accepted the challenge to help fight premature birth, birth defects and infant loss. We cannot achieve our mission without each one of you! The 2018 March for Babies will highlight the strength of families affected by premature birth, birth defects and the loss of a child, celebrate the strides we’ve made towards accomplishing our mission and applaud the fundraising efforts of our donors. On Saturday, April 28, 2018, more than 1,000 individuals will come together at Lake Shawnee to support the March of Dimes. Our goal is to raise a total of $100,000 for a healthier future for babies.

MEET THE BRISSETTS

During the Brissetts’ effort to have a second child, Jenna experienced back to back miscarriages and was eventually diagnosed and treated for endometriosis. After three months of unsuccessful attempts at conceiving, Clomid was started and the second round was successful! Not only that, but Jenna was carrying twins – Finn and Sam! When labor began at 27 weeks, it was terrifying. Both boys were delivered and needed to be ventilated. Finn had so much equipment that he was in a twin room by himself and Sam went into a single room. The twins were both so tiny and it was frightening to touch them. Jenna was able to hold Sam for the first time on day three and it was simply amazing for her. The Brisetts realized Finn wasn’t doing well and weren’t sure what was going to happen, but being able to finally hold one of them was good for the heart. That Monday, Finn had a rough day but ended up stabilizing enough that the family felt comfortable going home to be with their daughter. By the time we got home, Finn had deteriorated to the point that they needed to go back. It was the longest night of their lives and eventually the extremely difficult decision was made to allow him to stop fighting and end his life support. He had fought very hard for 5 days. The first time the family got to hold sweet Finn would be the last as they comforted him and told him how much he was loved while he passed away. There were return visits to the hospital every day for the next eight weeks while Sam got healthier, bigger, and stronger. Sam was later discharged at nine weeks old. The Brissett Family lived through the scariest time of their lives and a roller coaster of emotions. The Brissett Family would like to thank the hospital staff for the wonderful treatment and care of the twins and the entire family. Along with the staff, the Brissetts are very privileged to have a long list of family, friends, and colleagues who have been nothing but supportive. Although the pain will never go away, they are so fortunate to have been able to hold Finn and now, two year old Sam. This experience has given them a strong calling to help others who need the same support they received during this difficult time in their lives.
