Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

ABOUT MARCH FOR BABIES

March of Dimes Western New York is looking forward to welcoming the Nugent family of Allegany, NY at the Buffalo March for Babies on May 6, 2018.

Eleven-year-old Galvin Nugent has a big heart and the drive and desire to help others. He knows a little about being sick too. Galvin has Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency which is a genetic disorder that causes increased risk of lung infections to him. When he was younger his parents spent many days in hospitals and met other families going through hard times who were helped by March of Dimes.

At age four, Galvin indicated that he wanted to help too. The first year, Galvin raised $106 by asking family and friends for donations. He cried at the end of his first March for Babies because he thought if he raised money and completed the walk, all of the babies would get to go home.  That is when his passion for fundraising really got started. Now, with his nine-year-old brother Talin by his side, they visit businesses in Allegany, Portville and Olean to ask for support and educate people on the March of Dimes’ mission to lead the fight for the health of all moms and babies.  The communities know how much Galvin cares about raising money for March of Dimes and are ready to open their hearts and wallets when he comes by.

Since 2009 Galvin, and the Nugent family, have raised nearly $18,000 to support March of Dimes’ mission.   Galvin’s goal is to reach the $20,000 mark before this year’s March for Babies
