Important Update

Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

The Sullivans

The Sullivan's gave birth to their daughter, Laurel, locally at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children Presbyterian St Luke’s. At 20 weeks, the Sullivan's baby was shown to not be growing at a normal rate and was diagnosed as having IUGR, intrauterine growth restriction. Their maternal fetal specialist advised them that there were 3 possible options 1) that their baby would not survive and be still born 2) that their baby would stop growing and depending on her size may or may not be viable at birth and 3) that mom, Karin, would get preeclampsia and they would have to deliver the baby, but again depending on the size she may or may not be viable. At 32 weeks Karin was admitted to the hospital showing signs of preeclampsia which turned into HELLP Syndrome resulting in an emergency C-section. Laurel was born at 33 weeks weighing a tiny 2lbs 12oz. The March of Dimes funded research helped develop Surfactant therapy, which was given to Laurel while in the NICU during her 50 day stay. Thanks to the amazing nurses and doctors at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children and the March of Dimes funding for surfactant Laurel is now a healthy and growing three year old.
