ABOUT MARCH FOR BABIES

JOIN THE MOVEMENT

March for Babies is a campaign to rally millions of Americans in the collective effort to transform the health of all families.

It is more than a march, it’s America’s larger call to action to ensure that all families get the healthy start they deserve!

You’re lifting up communities for health equity, opening the door for all moms to have access to care and protecting the health of families by pushing for their rights.

You’re taking action for all families throughout their pregnancy journey by raising critical funds to help March of Dimes continue research, programs, support and advocacy so families get the best possible start.

Octavia Otenyo and Victoria

My husband and I have three NICU graduates, including girl - boy twins: Octavia and Otenyo, and another girl, our youngest, Victoria. The twins were born in July of 2022; and because three newborns sounded so much more fun than just twin newborns, we welcomed our daughter Victoria into the world the following July. If you’re doing the math, yes, they are a year apart and yes, we go through a lot of diapers! Our journey to the NICU started when my water broke unexpectedly at 24 weeks and 2 days into my pregnancy with the twins. Luckily, I wasn’t in labor, but Octavia’s water sack had broken so I was put on immediate bedrest. When my labor started 5 days later, my OB said let’s try something. The plan then unfolded that we would deliver Octavia naturally, and if Otenyo was not in distress, he would stay inside. Remarkably, that’s what happened. Octavia was born at 1:00 am at 25 weeks weighing 1 pound 8 oz. Despite being in labor, my son was content, and he remained inside. However, 81 hours later, my son was born at 25 weeks and 3 days by a semi-emergent c-section and weighing 1 pound 11 oz at birth. Throughout their stay, 101 days for Otenyo and 117 for Octavia, the babies went through the gamut of breathing machines, diagnoses, procedures, infections, you name it. Thanks to the phenomenal care they received, today, Octavia and Otenyo are happy, healthy, and growing 19 monthers and their smiles light up our home. That light got even brighter when we added Victoria to our family. She was born at 36 weeks and 3 days weighing 6 lbs 11 ounces. Victoria had a brief NICU stay; and of course, she received excellent care and got to return to us a few days later. We joked that Victoria had heard so many wonderful things about the NICU, she wanted to see it for herself. Today, Victoria is 7 months old and thriving. Our family is now complete.
