In 2017, The Nation published "What's Killing America's Black Infants?" The answer was clear: racism in healthcare.
If you know me, you understand that reproductive health, rights, and justice is a top priority. If our system recognizes reproductive "rights" legally without recognizing "justice" (e.g. access/affordability), it is done in vain. This is why I march.
As a premature baby, I grew up understanding how difficult life could be. The older I got, however, I really understood the intersections that racism, sexism, poverty, and health inequities have people's bodies, especially Black women. With nearly 4 million babies born each year, we have a lot of work to do to help them all. We have work to do to push toward equitable healthcare systems and infrastructures. The funds I raise enable March of Dimes to support research, lead programs and provide education and advocacy that truly makes a difference to families in our community and across the country.
