In August 2008, I lost my husband, Jason, in a motorcycle accident. Thought my life was over, but had to be strong for my 2-1/2 year old, Kayla. About 3 weeks afterwards I found out I was pregnant. The day of the accident I had a feeling that I was pregnant, but was still totally shocked when the pregnancy test came out positive.
Then December came along and I was going to get to find out if I was having a boy or a girl. We always wanted a boy & a girl, so I was so hoping for a little boy. But knew it'd be hard since Jason always wanted to have a little boy. First shot on the screen was my little man, William, showing us that he was definitely a boy. Couldn't believe it. And then we were told that he had anencephaly, a neural tube defect that is the incomplete formation of the brain, skull & scalp. We were told that it is "incompatible with life". Once again I thought my life was over and couldn't help but wonder why God was letting all of this happen to my family. I decided to continue with the pregnancy because I wanted that chance to say goodbye to my son since I did not get to say goodbye to Jason before he passed.
Only about 5% of women continue with their pregnancies when they find out that their child has anencephaly. My little boy was a VERY active little man. Kicking me nonstop all day! I really don't think he slept at all. :) I just knew that one day he'd break my water. Not expecting that he'd do it 7-1/2 weeks early. I woke up on Wednesday morning, March 11th, and thought I was leaking amniotic fluid. Went to the hospital and sure enough I was. Everything that day happened so fast. My handsome boy was born into Heaven at 6:24pm that night. He weighed 2lbs 13oz and was 14-1/4". I was devastated that I didn't get a chance to hear his heartbeat. But I truly believe that might have been A LOT harder to watch him die in my arms. So I created this team in HONOR of him. In hopes to one day find a cure for his defect and all other defects. I thank you for joining my team or donating, it truly means a lot to me that you are taking the time to support us as we Walk for Babies in memory of my son.
