On September 17, 2013, Dylyn was born via emergency C-section in order to give both of us a chance at survival. He was born at 34 weeks due to a severe case of HELLP syndrome. Dylyn spent two days struggling to breathe on his own before he was transported to another hospital where he spent three weeks in a newborn intensive care unit (NICU). Upon his arrival he was put on a ventilator and then graduated to a cannula, followed by room air. During his stay in the NICU he had many apnea episodes and irregular breathing patterns. When Dylyn was discharged he came home on oxygen and an apnea monitor because his lungs weren't fully developed. In November 2013, Dylyn spent five days in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) after undergoing stomach surgery on Thanksgiving. Thanks to surfactant and research by the March of Dimes Dylyn is now a happy toddler with a lot of energy.
Our family is excited and honored to be the 2015 Ambassador Family and to be a part of the March of Dimes as March for Babies Team DTH again this year. We support the organization in hopes to give other premature babies the same fighting chance. Without the research from the March of Dimes, Dylyn might not be with us today.
