Meet Brinkley and Brayden
May 22, 2012 my twins Brinkley and Brayden were born at 28 weeks and 4 days(and yes the days matter). As for us, our Brayden spent 57 days in the NICU here at Midtown Medical. He was a day or so away from coming home when he came down with Late Onset Group B strep which almost took his life, had it not been for the ever watchful eyes of his NICU nurses.
Brinkley spent 143 days in the NICU between Midtown Medical and Egleston in Atlanta. She had 3 surgeries to correct various issues resulting from her preterm birth. She suffered a brain bleed which caused the death of her cerebellum. Latin for “little brain”, the cerebellum controls balance and coordination. She also suffered some damage to her eyes which affects her central vision. She attends physical therapy twice per week, speech therapy twice per week, and occupational therapy once per week. Twice each month we travel to the Center for the Visually Impaired for vision therapy.
