This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

Meet Shania

Beginning around 10 weeks in her pregnancy, LaShanna was told that she wouldn’t carry full term, but she proceeded with the risky pregnancy. The pregnancy was going well until she was 27 weeks. Within 24 hours, she went from having a minor headache to being diagnosed with severe Preeclampsia and then told that both of them were in danger and the only option was to have Shania delivered by emergency C-section. Shania was born weighing exactly 2lbs. Once she was stable they brought her to the room where the family was able to briefly see her before proceeding to the NICU. Because of the complications from the severe preeclampsia, LaShanna was only able to see her daughter through photos and videos her family showed her. After two months in the NICU, Shania came home. While Shania is a happy, energetic, and joyful 2 year old, she still suffers from some minor complications from prematurity. She has asthma, low weight, developmental delays, low immune, and hormone deficiency. Her family is thankful for the doctors and nurses and the March of Dimes for their continued research on the causes and solutions of preterm birth.
