David was born unexpectedly in September 2012, at 31 weeks, weighing 3lbs 11oz. He developed respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), an ailment that was often fatal for premature babies just a generation ago, and spent the first month of his life in the NICU fighting to grow, breathe, and eat. Thankfully, to look at him now one would never know how tenuous his first few weeks were. Today he is an energetic, kind, smart and entertaining 6th grader and a constant ray of sunshine.
We participated in "the Baby Walk", as David calls it, every year from 2013-2019 and returned in 2022. We walk to give back; it was funding from the March of Dimes that financed the RDS treatment that saved David's life. We walk each year with one of his NICU "classmates", who we have kept in touch with, and together we walk in memory of Abby, another NICU friend who earned her angel wings before going home.
This will be my and David's 10th March for Babies together. We appreciate any contribution to this cause that has meant a great deal to our family, and to the families of many friends and relatives who have also experienced prematurity. Thank you!
Love,
Melissa & David
