I’m walking for my son Derek Miracle who was born at 26+2 weeks on 2/4/24 due to me having preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. Since birth he’s had trouble breathing on his own due to his lungs not being mature yet. He had pneumothorax, chest tubes and at just 9 days old he had a thoracotomy where his surgeon saved his life after repairing a tear in his trachea and broncial tubes! In July ‘24 he had another surgery where they placed a G-tube. After 165 days in the NICU Derek finally got to come home! He no longer needs any oxygen support but still has his G-tube and works everyday to eventually remove it. Derek is a healthy, adventurous, playful and loving boy! He loves watching the Dodgers with dad, playing with our dog Cooper and going to the library with me. He reminds us everyday what a miracle he is! The strongest and bravest little boy I know! All it took was faith, love and a Miracle. I’m a proud mama to a NICU warrior! 💜
