Pregnancy is supposed to be a time of excitement and anticipation, but for me, it was also filled with fear and uncertainty. I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension, and as my pregnancy progressed, concerns grew for both my health and my babys. At just 37 weeks, Zenith made her entrance into the world—three weeks early and struggling. She was born blue, with an APGAR score of only one. In that terrifying moment, I barely had time to process what was happening before she was whisked away to the NICU. The next several days were a blur of monitors, tubes, and endless prayers as she fought to get stronger. Seeing her hooked up to machines, unable to hold her the way I had dreamed, was one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced. But through it all, Zenith showed us her incredible strength. After almost a week in the NICU, she was finally able to come home—our little warrior, already proving she was meant to defy the odds. Today, she continues to amaze us with her resilience, and we are forever grateful for the doctors, nurses, and organizations like the March of Dimes that help babies like Zenith get the strong start they deserve. We walk for Zenith. We walk for the families still in the NICU. We walk for hope.
March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.
March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.
