On March 15, 2010 at 11:13pm, Wesley Anaya Route was born by c-section weighing a monstrous 1lb 12.oz. Never had I imagined that I would give birth to a premature baby, especially one that was shy of 28 weeks by 1 day. Over the next month and a half, her dad, our family, and I would watch Wesley fight for her life. It was an out of body experience that God's grace saw us through. Daily, I would read Psalms 121 to her. We wanted her to live, but we did not want her to suffer. God saw fit to allow her to live . He guided the hands of each nurse, tech, doctor, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, and administrative staff that came in contact with Wesley to nurse her to health. Wesley spent 3.5 months in NNICU and 3.5 months in PICU/PIMCU. Wesley has fared 4 weeks on the oscillator, multiple baggings, a desat into the 60s that lasted 36 hours, a whopping PDA closure with medication, pneumonia and blood infections that took weeks to detect, multiple blood transfusions, blood pressure issues, 2 rounds of steroids, months on high flow oxygen, and a surgery for the nissen, g-tube, and bilateral hernia repair. Fourteen years later, issues from prematurity still linger but are highly manageable. Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick. I'm walking in March for Babies because I want to do something about this. And I need your help. Please support my walk. With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.
At March for Babies™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!
