“Once again I am proud to serve as the 2025 Fort Bend March for Babies Chair and stand beside you and millions of Americans in uplifting our communities, creating connections and taking action to make America more equitable,” said Davy McCullough, Director – Global Operations Human Resources, SLB, “The goal of March of Dimes is to ensure that every family is healthy regardless of race, income or geography. My wife, Hilary, and I are so pleased to support March of Dimes and fight for the health of all moms and babies and we look forward to seeing you at the March for Babies family walk on Saturday, May 10”
The McCullough Family Story
When we were expecting our first child in 2000, we had just recently transferred with SLB to Norway. As first-time parents-to-be and in a new country, we quickly realized that pregnancy, labor and delivery do not go as planned, no matter how much you try to prepare for it. As labor progressed for our eldest son, Matthew, we learned that he was going to be a big boy and natural delivery would not be an option. – except things were already underway in and his heart rate was starting to drop.
My wife, Hilary, was quickly rushed off for an emergency C-section, and I was left behind in a state of panic and confusion. Our midwife, who was amazing during this process, came back a little while after to inform me of what was happening and escort me to the viewing area while the C-section was underway. I felt helpless, I could only watch and pray that my wife and son were okay.
Our first son, Matthew, was born at nearly 11lbs and although Hilary was unaware of the trauma that she just endured to deliver our son; she would soon experience further challenges during her recovery from this. More than the local language barriers we experienced, which made basic feeding instructions for baby Matthew and recovery care for Hilary difficult, Hilary had hemorrhaged from the surgery and needed an emergency blood transfusion less than 24 hours after giving birth.
With your first child, you always wonder “is this normal” and start to realize that there is no such thing as normal when it comes to the birth of your child or the emotional and physical effect it has on your spouse. Looking back, it took Hilary nearly six months to recover from those effects following Matthew’s birth.
Our children are all healthy, active adults. Matthew is 24 years old and graduated last summer from Brighton University in the UK with a Bachelor of Science in Geography; he's now started his work career as a Mud Logger in West Texas. Our daughter, Christina, is 20 years old and just started her degree at Queens University Belfast, studying her ambition of Zoology. Timothy, our youngest son, is 18 years old and an twelfth grader in high school. He has been accepted at Embry Riddle college in Florida to study Aeronautical Science and complete his Commercial Pilot licence.
With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.
At March for Babies™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
