How to begin the story of our family. My Husband Arthur and I (Heather) were trying to have a family for a long time. We did infertility do to PCOS, it was so hard, we did 3 iuis and 3 ivfs, we had a dream of a family. We miscarried in 2009 in April and August and It was devastating. We wanted to try one more time and we got pregnant again. When you go through infertility you go for a heart beat ultra sound at about week 7, ours was on Christmas eve, I couldn't look but we had 2 beating hearts! 2 heart beats that changed our lives forever.
Well at week 12 I started to bleed, I had placenta previa and shortening cervix. At week 21 my cervix was sewed up . I was placed on bedrest at week 12-30.I went for an ultrasound and checkup once a week down in Charleston, SC. We didn't know if we would even make it to week 24 but each week the nurses cheered for us and on week 30 day 1, we were on the ride down to a regular checkup, I saw a rainbow. I had a feeling it was going to be a good day.Well, when she checked my cervix string I was in labor 5cm and it was go time. They sent me to the hospital called my husband to get there now ( the office was 2.5 hours from home) Our babies were born right when he got there by C-section on June 3 2010. I tell you this story from the beginning because my boys were super heros from week 1!
After they were born I couldn’t see or hold them they were sent to the Nicu. I balled for the first time I held Arthur (Henry couldn’t be held yet) I WAS A MOM!! My families dream came true. I can't tell you how life changing that moment was for me, something told me they would make at this journey! Well what a journey in the nicu. All the moments they stopped breathing I stopped breathing... all the times the doctors tried to explain the pdas and infections, but we made it ! I lived at the Ronald McDonald House in Charleston Sc and my husband was 2.5 hours away working so I could stop working. I met amazing people that I am still friends with today! My babies made it , my family made it! I have been trying to think of creative words for this journey; my super hero babies, all the super hero’s that supported my family; all the super hero nurses and doctors that made my family’s dream come true. I am going to end it like this, life is so short I have learned you can’t take anything for granted and you should enjoy every second.
I participate to help all moms and families experience the joy of a healthy baby. With nearly 4 million babies born each year, we have a lot of work to do to help them all. The funds I raise enable March of Dimes to support research, lead programs and provide education and advocacy that truly makes a difference to families in our community and across the country. If you believe, like I do, that every baby deserves the best possible start, please march with me or make a donation to support this community effort. Together we can fight for the health of all moms and babies.
With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.
At March for Babies™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
