Why I walk

Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick. I'm walking in March for Babies because I want to do something about this. Here are a few stats:

  • During 2012-2014 (average) in Hamilton, preterm birth rates were highest for black infants (13.7%), followed by Hispanics (10.4%), whites (9.5%) and Asian/Pacific Islanders (9.1%).
  • Black infants (13.7%) were about 2 times as likely as Asian/Pacific Islander infants (9.1%) to be born preterm during 2012-2014 (average).
  • In the United States, prematurity/low birthweight is the second leading cause of all infant deaths (during the first year of life) and the leading cause of infant death among black infants.

And I need your help. Please support my walk. Making a secure donation is easy: just click the 'donate now' button on this page. Thank you for helping me give all babies a healthy start!

When it comes to giving families the best possible start, we all have the power to help.

March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.

March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.

Thank you for your support!
