Dr. Stephen Glass Supports March for Babies

Data show that the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations in the world for childbirth.1 Over 700 women die each year from pregnancy-related causes, and the CDC reports that 60 percent are preventable.2 It is even more dangerous for communities of color:

  • Black women are 3-4 times more likely to experience pregnancy-related complications such as pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, and maternal mortality than white women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • In the United States, Black women are more likely to give birth prematurely, resulting in higher rates of infant mortality and long-term health problems.
  • Studies have found that Black women are more likely to experience discrimination and mistreatment during childbirth, which can lead to trauma, anxiety, and other negative outcomes.
  • The social determinants of health, including racism, poverty, and lack of access to quality healthcare, contribute to the disproportionately high rates of pregnancy-related complications and maternal mortality among Black women.
  • March of Dimes, the organization behind March for Babies, is committed to addressing these disparities through advocacy, education, and research to improve maternal and child health outcomes for all families, especially those most at risk. By supporting March for Babies, you can help make a difference in the lives of Black mothers and babies.

I joined the movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially those most at risk.

With preterm birth and maternal death rates continuing to rise, I’m committed to raising funds so that every family gets the best possible start. But I need your help.

Please visit my fundraising page to make a donation. Together we’ll be part of a movement to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.

Respectfully,

Stephen
