Sofia’s story started 9 years ago even though our little bird is only 7 months old. My husband and I ventured through 9 years of IVF cycles and countless failed pregnancies. On our last round we were told that we had produced only one viable embryo. Sofia was our one in a million.
Sofia was born at 30 weeks and because of MOD research and advocacy, she did well after delivery and in the NICU. While in labor I received a steroid shot that allowed Sofia’s lungs to develop quickly enough that after she was born, she was on her C-PAP machine at the lowest levels and was even capable of breathing on her own for short amounts of time. I later found out that MOD had advocated and sponsored research that made this shot available to those in pre-term labor.
During our stay in the NICU MOD advocates consistently visited us with information, books and lent a comforting hug or shared positive stories about what at the time, seemed like the long road home. We were blessed with all of the nurses, doctors and social workers at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. We hope we can help contribute to closing the health equity gap and continue the great work and advocacy that MOD does in the Houston area for moms and babies!

Anything for Sofiasss!!!
With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.
At March for Babies™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!
