My March of Dimes journey began with my first walk in 2006. It was a few months after the loss of my first son, Alex. Alex's mom and I were expecting our first son in February 2006. But in Oct 2005 she went into labor at 22 ½ weeks. Alex weighed 1lb .2oz and just was not strong enough to survive the delivery. Before we were even able to say hello to our son, we had to say goodbye. I understand, firsthand, the impact a tragedy like this can have on all aspects of life. I still wonder, every day, what Alex would be like if he was here with us. After the loss of Alex, I was looking for somewhere to put my grief. Through the March of Dimes, I saw the possibility of helping other families avoid the tragedy that we had experienced so I began walking and fundraising. The same year as my first walk, I welcomed my second son into the world and Logan has been my anchor ever since.
My wife, Allison, and I began our March of Dimes journey together with a March of Dimes walk in 2013. We created our blended family in 2018 with my son Logan and her daughter Emma. That family grew in 2019 when our daughter, Ava, burst onto the scene. Ava gave us a little scare when she arrived 4 weeks early and spent her first 5 days in the NICU. At 5lbs 4oz, she seemed so fragile. She was under lights and needed some help from a feeding tube but she was a fighter. It didn’t take long for her to realize she didn’t need the help eating and she pulled the feeding tube out herself. She has been showing us how she can do things on her own ever since.
Our family is walking to give moms, babies, and families a better chance at happy and healthy lives together. We understand how valuable new research, technology, education, and support is to ensure that babies have every opportunity for a healthy start. Please support our walk and the March of Dimes. With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.
At March for Babies™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!
