Our journey started in 2012 after our first loss. A few months later, we successfully conceived, later finding out we were expecting twins – what an amazing blessing! While scared, I was overfilled with joy and excitement, whereas my husband was just plain terrified.
As soon as we learned we were expecting twins, my priority was finding a hospital with a maternity ward and a NICU III (vs NICU II). Since I previously worked night shifts in NICU III throughout my college years, I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly, and the one thing I knew I can control and was adamant about was that I did not want to be under a different roof than my babies should they need extra love and care immediately after birth. With many complications throughout pregnancy, my body gave up at 32+ weeks after catching pneumonia. After a routine appointment with my MFM, we received instructions to be put on bedrest moving forward. However, we never made it home after that medical appointment - straight to the hospital we went. My OB was called, and the original plan was to keep the babies in as long as we can, with injections to slow down labor, then with injections to help develop their lungs. However, after some concerns, signs of preeclampsia, and a consultation with my MFM, my medical team agreed not to wait for lab results, and changed the plan to take the babies out as soon as possible: yes, the very same evening! Before I knew it, we were wheeled to the delivery room, filled with many medical personnel to help with the safe delivery of our precious babies. Everything is still a blur to this day, but I remember coming in and out of consciousness and briefly caught a glimpse of the twins before they were swiftly wheeled to NICU. Babyboy came in at 4+ pounds whilst Babygirl came in at 3+ pounds. After nearly six weeks of battling, growing and thriving in NICU III, the twins were finally going to come home! The medical care, modern equipment / technology and support of the entire medical team made this possible. We still had some unresolved medical issues at the time, but we were all finally home and under one roof. What a blessing!
Fast forward four years later and another loss, we were blessed with a miracle baby. All three children are now thriving and doing extremely well, not just academically, but also with sports and volunteer work as well.
Please join me as we march for babies. With every strive and advancement in medicine and technology, I’m hoping that any and all funds raised will help with being able to make a difference in families’ lives. Together we’ll be part of a movement to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.
At March for Babies™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!
