Molly is one of the many miracles that are possible due to research and programs supported by March of Dimes. It wasn't long ago that being born 15 weeks early was an almost guaranteed tragedy, but now, with current medical practices it is survivable for so many babies WHEN there is access to good medical care. Molly had the best care at Hinsdale Adventist NICU and is a thriving 7.5-year-old...... but the effects of being born so early have a huge impact on her life now and likely in the future. Many complications from extreme prematurity are very well understood and anticipated (lung issues, failure to thrive) but others are more challenging to understand. Why is growth such a challenge, why is there a high rate of learning differences as these children get older.… more research, education and access to medical care is needed.
