In Trey's short life, he changed ours forever. And he continues to change others. We joined the March of Dimes Board of directors last year, because we are determined to help families avoid the heartbreak we have experienced- and to make sure every parent has access to answers, prevention, and care when it matters most.
Our Story:
On April 1st, 2023, I was 33 weeks pregnant. I was experiencing an uneventful, completely normal pregnancy and even had a perfect routine ultrasound just days before. However, that day, I noticed the baby seemed to not be moving. I underwent an emergency c-section, giving birth to our son, Trey Chai Levy. Trey immediately required high level medical care, sending him urgently to the NICU. It was found on Trey's EEG that he had minimal brain function. After several other tests and every medical measure possible, Trey passed away in the NICU just 4 days later on April 5th. We were left shocked, heartbroken and longing for answers. Several nurses and doctors told us they had never seen anything like this in their entire careers. We were told we'd never find out what happened or why.
Several months later, I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune blood clot disorder called Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome (APS), which yields terrible outcomes for fetuses during pregnancy. According to some sources, the rate of fetal loss may exceed 90% in untreated patients with APS. This disorder was the likely cause for Trey's death. APS can be a silent killer - it is not tested for during pregnancy, yet there are preventative measures that can be taken if detected early enough or prior to pregnancy.
Family Update: On August 21st, 2024, we welcomed a healthy baby into our family, after a healthy (heavily monitored) pregnancy. Born at 36 weeks, our baby girl, Teddi Rae Levy, is named after her late brother, Trey.
We are raising awareness to honor AJ and Teddi's brother, Trey. We love him and miss him every day.
(AJ-4.5 years old, Teddi-15 months old)
We will be walking alongside the Kohn family, in memory of their son, Aaron, who was stillborn in July 2018.
Thank you for honoring Trey Chai Levy (4/1/2023-4/5/2023) with us- today and always.
Love,
Leah & Adam Levy
