Wells was born at 25 weeks' gestation. Weighing 1lb. 12oz. and measuring 12 inches long, he was considered a micro-preemie, too fragile for us to even hold or kiss. He remained in the NICU for 165 days where Austin and I watched our little guy fight through a brain bleed, a hole in his heart, chronic lung disease, eye surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, and a spinal tap. He has endured so much, but because of the dedicated doctors, nurses, therapists, and March of Dimes organization, we were able to bring our baby home! Now he's approaching his 2nd birthday, and not a day goes by that he isn't smiling and laughing.
I march for Wells. I march for his red curls, his ticklish toes, his dimpled cheeks, and his curious mind. I march for every parent who has suffered through the trauma of the NICU and early pregnancy. But most of all, I march for the hope that one day no parent will ever have to.
Please visit my fundraising page to donate to the cause. Together, we’ll be part of a movement to end the preventable maternal health risks and deaths, end preventable preterm birth and infant death, and close the health equity gap.
March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.
March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.
