My beautiful daughter, Ellie Sherrick, was born on 10/4/05 at 26 1/2 weeks. She was 1 lb. 5 3/4 oz. and was 12 1/2" long. I developed preeclampsia and had to deliver her by emergency C-section. She had a PDA which was corrected with medicine and received surfactant to help with lung development. She did very well until 12/3/05, when she developed NEC, a bowel disease that generally only happens to preemies in the first 2-6 weeks after birth. They had to remove the majority of her small & large intestines. Ellie had a whole lot of spunk and determination and we were preparing her to be put on the list for a bowel/liver transplant but sadly, she passed away at 8 months old after complications from liver and kidney failure on 6/7/06. There is nothing worse than losing a child but I am thankful for every minute that I spent with my little angel. She will always be a special part of my life. Every year, half a million babies in the U.S. are born prematurely. Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death and many life long disabilities. The funds we raise in March for Babies supports research that saves babies' lives.
March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.
March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.
Thank you for your support!
