As the father of three children who were all born prematurely, I personally know the feeling of uncertainty, fear, and concern associated for prematurity. My youngest son, Isaiah, pictured below was born 12 weeks premature and weighed only 1lb 13oz. Today, Isaiah is a happy and healthy 18 year old teenager. Even though my family’s experiences with prematurity resulted in good outcomes, other families’ experiences with prematurity are a lot worse.
Every year approximately 111,426 babies are born in Michigan. Of the babies born each year, more than 11,406 (10%) are born premature and 3,370 with birth defects. Additionally, approximately 727 babies born prematurely die before their 1st birthday. Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick. I support the March of Dimes because of the indelible impact prematurity has had on my family and to prevent other families from going through similar experiences.
Please join me in the effort to promote “Healthy Moms and Strong Babies” by making a donation to the March of Dimes. Thank you for helping me give all babies a healthy start!
March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.
March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.
Thank you for your support!
