My journey with the March of Dimes started a little over eight years ago.  I was pregnant with my first born, and everything was going smoothly.  I had just had a routine checkup at 28 weeks.  The following day, I woke up to get ready for work and my water broke unexpectedly.  We rushed to my doctor who sent us immediately to the hospital.  My son was born just ten days later at only 30 weeks and 2 days.  He was 10 weeks premature.  He weighed in at only 3 lbs 6 oz and was immediately intubated because he was not breathing on his own. 

Becoming a parent for the first time is stressful enough, but to be told you can’t hold your baby and that he had to be admitted into the neonatal intensive care unit is a terrifying experience.  We waited an entire week before we were able to hold him.  It was another week before he was able to wear a onesie. He ended up spending 42 days in the NICU before we were able to bring him home where he is currently thriving at 8 years old.  We donate and spread awareness so other moms and babies can have happy, healthy deliveries.
