I was born extremely premature after my mom experienced preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM). Following complications, she was transferred to a hospital with a high-level NICU, where she remained on bed rest until my emergency delivery on August 25, 2008.
At birth, I faced life-threatening challenges, including respiratory distress, and required life support. I spent three months in the NICU, where doctors were unsure if I would survive. During that time, my mom was also hospitalized but never missed a day by my side, constantly advocating for my care.
Although I overcame many obstacles, I was discharged with lasting conditions, including retinopathy of prematurity, which left me blind in one eye, and anemia. Despite this, I have adapted and continue to live a full and meaningful life.
I share my story to give hope to families facing similar journeys—outcomes can be uncertain, but strength, advocacy, and perseverance can make all the difference.
