“Sometimes this just happens”

1 in 4 was the statistic that I learned after my first miscarriage.  It happens to 1 in 4 women.  How could this be so common?  I had heard stories of it happening to women, but I didn’t recall hearing them often enough for “1 in 4” to make sense to me.  It wasn’t until I started sharing the story of my own losses that I realized, yes, this happens to so many women- and it’s something we are often silent about.
 

“Sometimes this just happens” is what I was told after my first loss.  And my second.  And my third.  It wasn’t until my fourth miscarriage that I was told by a doctor that it was “time to start looking for answers”.  Why did I, and why do so many women have to wait so long to start looking for answers?  Why did my pain and trauma have to quadruple before I was able to gain the interest of medical personnel into finding a solution that could prevent further suffering?
 

Two beloved little girls in my life, my niece and baby cousin, were born prematurely and spent the first few months of their lives in the NICU.  I thank God for all of the support from hospital staff, the kindness of strangers, and donations from organizations for helping these little ones, their mothers and their families get through such a stressful time.  It truly takes a village, especially for these lives that are so fragile, and every moment that a mother can be with her baby during this time is not a moment wasted.
 

It is my goal to pour into this organization with the trust that they will continue to pour into moms and babies everywhere- saving every little one who can be saved, and funding research and testing to prevent further loss for mothers like me.
