A Journey of Fear, Strength, and Hope: The Birth of Adalynn
When I found out I was pregnant, I was overcome with emotion—not just joy, but fear. Having experienced a miscarriage before, the excitement was clouded by anxiety. While my husband was thrilled, I was hesitant to get my hopes up. My pregnancy journey began smoothly but quickly turned into a series of hospital visits, injections due to blood type incompatibility, and unexpected complications. I was eventually placed on bed rest and referred to a high-risk specialist—but I never made it to that appointment.
On Valentine’s Day, I began bleeding and rushed to Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. The next morning, I was in emergency surgery delivering my daughter Adalynn at just 23 weeks gestation. She weighed only one pound, and doctors gave her a 5% chance of survival. But against all odds, she cried—a powerful sound that gave us hope. From that moment on, she proved herself a fighter.
Adalynn spent months in the NICU, overcoming obstacle after obstacle—heart surgery, feeding challenges, and breathing issues. After coming home, we faced sleep apnea, eye surgery, and ear infections that required additional procedures. Each scare tested our strength, but Adalynn met every challenge with resilience.
Today, Adalynn is a thriving, energetic 10 year-old who dances, cheers, and competes in karate. She defied every expectation, and her journey reminds us daily of the strength of premature babies and the power of hope.
