Our family is inextricably linked to the mission of the March of Dimes. It all started in 2014, when I was excitedly awaiting two twin boys, Jackson and Aiden, to start our parenthood journey. Unfortunately I went into labor at just 20 weeks, and there was nothing the doctors could do to stop it. Our sons were born, and an hour later they had both died. The hour that we spent holding them is the most precious hour of my life. It was devastating to only get such a short time with our sons, knowing that we would never see their faces again, never get the privilege of watching them grow up, and always miss their presence in our family.
We were unwillingly thrust into the world of grief, and those scars are still with us today. We kept trying however, and have since welcomed the birth of 3 more beautiful children: Kara, Everett, and Carter. Kara and Everett were also born premature, and they directly benefited from lifesaving treatments prioneered by March of Dimes research. After stays in the NICU, thankfully neither of them have any complications from their early arrival.
Today we are adjusting to the crazy full life with 3 kids at home. Kara and Everett know all about their big brothers, and we walk in March for Babies every year in their memory. This is our way of honoring the missing children in our lives, and funding research that will one day prevent other families from knowing this pain.
