In my line of work I see so many babies and families affected by prematurity. We strive everyday to decrease these premature birth rates when possible. Every single one of these babies has a place in my heart, but there is one in particular who holds a very large place. That is our sweet little Brooks. Brooks Hamilton Cossey was born 17 weeks premature just over a year ago. He fought for six long, incredible months in our neonatal intensive care unit before necrotizing enterocolitis took his sweet little life. There is not one day that goes by that I don't think about sweet Brooks. His chunky cheeks and multiple chins...gosh I miss him so! I am so lucky to be one of his many aunties and share in the love that is Brooks. This year at the March of Dimes walk, we walk for Brooks!
Every dollar donated to this wonderful cause goes towards the research and prevention of prematurity. This could save so many lives by learning new ways how to keep from having to deliver these babies early.
Right now, babies need all the help they can get. Premature birth affects about 380,000 babies here in the United States.
